Productive weeks
After two intense weeks on dry land, it was finally time to get back into the water. A ship on land is always a strange sight. But they were two particularly productive weeks! We tackled everything we could—and even more. The outside of the ship has been completely repainted, and it looks beautiful again. We also did a lot of painting and varnishing on deck, so we can enjoy the ship’s beauty there as well.
In addition to all the painting, all the engines were thoroughly inspected and brought up to date in terms of maintenance. We fixed the electrical faults, cleaned the ventilation system as much as possible, repaired the flagstaff, re-sealed a few hatches, loosened valves that were sticking, and much more. We also thoroughly cleaned and, where necessary, repainted the storage areas, while Mieke was busy restocking them for the upcoming voyages.
We haven’t done much work on the rigging recently, apart from replacing the forestay. In the coming days, we’ll continue with tightening the stays, setting the sails, replacing the topping lifts, renewing the bowstays, and more. That will definitely keep us busy for the next ten days…
