40 days at sea

The Oosterschelde is ready for departure. Preparations have been made and there is a slight excitement in the air. Because in a few hours, the time will come. Then the ship will leave for a voyage around the famous Cape Horn. The Roaring Forties and the Furious fifties lie ahead. Six weeks of sea. And waves, which can roll and grow freely around the world, because at this latitude there is no land holding them back.  To make an official Cape Horn trip, you have to sail at least 3,000 miles continuously, without using the engine from 50 degrees south latitude on one ocean, around the cape to 50 degrees south latitude on the other ocean.  For 40 days, only company of the albatrosses and each other. The slight tension can be understood..
