Almost there!

We are getting ready for Cape Horn.

As it looks now, we should round the Cape tomorrow around 21:00 UTC! The weather is relatively favorable; we’re getting more wind today, and just before we reach the Cape, it will decrease again. ‘Relatively’, because the hail showers continue to persist.

After rounding, a large windless area will come over us, so we’re looking for the best and safest way to deal with it. Since we want to make an official Cape Horn rounding, we cannot use the engine, which makes such a windless area quite unpleasant. There will be swells and currents, but with no wind, there will be no propulsion, and therefore no steering.

It looks like there will be some wind near the coast, which gives us the option to sail closer to the shore. But if the wind dies there too, we’ll have nothing, and we’ll be close to the coast, which naturally brings additional risks.

In short, we’re closely monitoring the forecasts and getting ready for the second milestone of this journey.
