The Green Witch

This morning at exactly 08:26, the moment had arrived: we crossed the Greenwich Meridian—the zero meridian—and found ourselves back in the Eastern Hemisphere. When a ship crosses a significant line of latitude or longitude, it rarely goes unnoticed. A sense of anticipation filled the air throughout the morning… Would we slip past the zero meridian unnoticed, or would one of the rulers of the sea pay us a visit? It soon became clear that the latter was the case.

Something—or someone—was on its way. The first signs appeared during breakfast, where mysterious green potions were served. Later, a cryptic message appeared on deck: “Beware of the Green Witch!”—a warning that put us all on high alert. In preparation for her possible arrival, we scrambled to find green clothing and accessories, hoping to appease the witch and win her favor.

When the Green Witch finally appeared on deck, we breathed a sigh of relief—she turned out to be friendly! She bestowed her blessings upon us for the rest of our journey, and we were even treated to a mysterious “zero drink” and a delicious sea biscuit. Even after her departure, her presence lingered: that evening, we enjoyed a feast of green mashed potatoes, a special zero meridian cake, and a music quiz—all in honor of our unique encounter and, of course, the color green!

One of the best things about sailing? Not only can you choose your own time zone—you can also create your own holidays!
